This article was written by Southern Arts to highlight the cause of the Friends of the Gaumont. The group was formed after discovering that Rank Touring Organisation was planning on closing the theatre to turn it into a bingo hall. The article explains plans to launch a campaign in order to save the theatre and prevent Southampton City Council from approving Rank Touring Organisation's plans.
